In 2013, with the cooperation of Yuji Fujiyama, Noriyuki Tamura, Yoshi Takuma, and Jun Iino, I launched Japan's first alternative skateboard blog, "Skate Slate Japan." I assembled the best team of writers in Japan, equipped with content creation skills. Yuji and Noriyuki were bilingual, speaking both Japanese and English, while the others spoke only Japanese. Initially, I struggled a bit with the Japanese way of doing things and communication, but it was truly a wonderful experience in the end.

SkateSlateJapan needed to gain enough traction in Japan to eventually launch a magazine, just as it had in North America. When we first launched SkateSlateJapan, SkateSlate Inc. was publishing 25,000 copies every two months, distributed worldwide with the support of partners, making SkateSlate a globally circulated publication. My dream was to make the Japanese version a popular magazine and increase awareness of various lesser-known forms of skateboarding.

There are many enjoyable ways to skateboard, not all of which involve taking risks. Undoubtedly, this somewhat unpopular category of sport has improved people's lives. When the pandemic hit, people finally realized the convenience of skateboarding as a solo sport, and thousands of new riders across Japan would likely pick up longboarding.
